About Boogie

Thank you for visiting BOOGIE’S BLOG!

I adopted Boogie from Boston Buddies in 2007.  Boogie is a medium to large boston terrier (25-29lbs) has one blue eye and a spot on his large head.

Boogie is a sweet and complicated lovebug who inspires me to draw dogs and has taught me almost everything I know about dog behavior. He keeps inspiring me to learn more.

Please note that this blog gets updated only about once or twice a year. 🙂 I am much more active on social media these days.

I just found your blog and am SO excited to read about someone (besides me) tackling the challenge of an “assertive” Boston Terrier head on! I

‘m about to start Thank Dog’s Bootcamp with my almost 2 year old Boston, Winston. He’s not a rescue (we got him from a reputable breeder at 8 weeks), but he has many of the same issues as your little guy. Regardless, I appreciate the insight and am ecstatic to find another owner who does as much research as I do – makes me feel like I’m on the right path.

Hope to see you in class. Keep up the great work!

Thanks so much for commenting! It’s so great to “meet” you, another boston owner! Look forward to meeting you and Winston in person!

    What a cutie!

    I love his eyes.

By the way, I just left a longish comment on your clicker training post. It included several links, and your spam filter might have caught it….

I am enjoying reading through your blog and browsing through your artwork. Looks like Boogie has found a great home with you!

    cheers,

    Hi!

Boogie is a great dog! I love the eyes.

Anyway I was hoping to get in touch with you via email but this will work. I work in affiliation with a company that provides pet supplies and I think Boogie would approve. If you could please email me regarding any opportunities you have please let me know!

Just found your blog. Boogie is adorable and so BT. I have 4 Bostons at this time, a 3 year old, an almost 2 year old and 2 puppies (15 weeks). They can all be very willful and stubborn. The 2 older ones are therapy dogs. The pups are in training. My 2 year old is very reactive. We were shocked when we got her because she was so different from our first BT. We say she is intense because she is so fixed and agressive toward things. She is a very sweet dog but we have to watch her until she gets used to new little people. She tends to play very roughly.

I was browsing Modern Dog and found your unbelievably fabulous blog and love it. I have 2 Tibetan Terriers and have a personal blog about them in blogspot http://wigglebuttduncan.blogspot.com/2009/10/tales-of-wigglebutt-duncan-tibetan.html and one that goes with our website (infrequent, need to do something about it; if you like, you can visit it at http://www.bumperpet.com). Am also now blogging about dogs and owners for ChicagoNow.com (in my spare time, lol, check my bio). Keep up the great work. I am now a subscriber and plan to order the BAT book through your site. All the best, Sue Yellen

I have 2 BT…husband and wife…both fixed now. Trixie is an alpha female and rules the roost…does not tolerate ANY dog near her family…becomes very aggressive and attacks…at 19lbs, she took on a 180lb Newfoundland…he froze and I had her on leash…any ideas for controlling her behavior?

Lucy, you need to work with a dog trainer/behaviorist. I am just a regular dog owner. And by the way, you can’t “control” your dog’s behavior if you don’t know how to listen to her or read the signals she is sending you and deal specifically with what the problem is… Every dog is an individual so there is no one blanket solution for aggression. So do hire a trainer – esp. a positive reinforcement trainer. Good luck!

Living in France with a female boston terrier, 3 years old, i really appréciate all about your Fantastic Boogie. My little Eroin is fantastic and so kind too, but she is fear of people and dogs, and she bit sometimes. I discover BAT and the DR Yin’s method with your blog. I practice alone because i don’t find BAT in France. I want to have a muzzle for Eroin to help her meeting quietly people. But i can’t find a muzzle for her little face.
Do you know where i can find o muzzle for her. I don’t really like muzzle but may be i must buy one to help Eroin to progress.

Hi! I’m so glad to have found this blog! I’ve recently adopted my sister’s Boston Terrier, an energetic, lovable little guy by the name of Nigel. We’re not quite sure of his age, but I’m guessing he’s about 5 or 6. And he’s great!

Boogie is absolutely adorable! I just found your blog on pinterest and I love it. I’ve been living with a wonderful rat terrier mix for about a year now, and I have learned so much about myself as I try to understand why he is the way he is. We were actually used as examples in our first obedience class of what the worst case scenario looks like. He’s incredibly reactive towards dogs, trucks and of course those god-awful squirrels 😊 I’ll admit I have and continue to make mistakes in my attempts to help him channel his reactivity…but we’ve made great strides and every little achievement is grandly celebrated. I will definitely use some of the tips in your blog. Thank you so much!

Hi Boogie, I think you will like this Art Project! Sorry to write in comments area, but was trying to reach the blog!

    My name is Bradley Davis.

I am a dog portrait artist who is currently doing a project on Kickstarter (link: bit.ly/summerdog)
where I am painting 100 dog portraits over the summer. I have reached my funding goal but am still about 65 dogs short of 100.
I am writing to you because I thought that my project would be of interest to your readers. If your readers would like to have their
dog(s) be part of the project it is really easy to do. They just need to send me a photo of their dog with the dog’s name and their
contact information. Also, if they would like to have the portrait mailed to them they can back the campaign for as little as $50.
But backing the campaign is not a must (at this point I just need some photos to paint from).

Please feel free to contact me at this email if you have any questions or would like more information.

Here is the link again: bit.ly/summerdog

    Thank you!

Love your drawings! I’m a brand new BT owner – I adopted Finley Bacon from SF Animal Control on April 1st of this year – and I’m already being referred to as crazy dog lady by family and friends. What is it about these little creatures that reduces a grown woman to talking gibberish?

I’m devouring everything by Dr. Yin and working on getting the Finnster to stop reacting to every dog and bird we encounter on our walks. Other than that one little thing, she came to me practically perfect: house trained, crate trained, loves riding in the car, loves ALL people, and has the sweetest temperament. I cannot believe I’ve gotten this lucky with my very first dog. I cannot wait to read more of your blog. Boogie is mucho fab!

I am so excited to find everything Lili and Boogie! I have had dogs my entire life and got my first Boston Terrier four years ago. Shayla is absolutely adorable and has a very much “Miss Congeniality” personality, having successfully navigated sharing a home with two Dalmatians and a Poodle/Chihuahua mix. I love your pictures, especially Boogie sleeping. Just ordered two t shirts with that great drawing on them. Love your work and love Boogie with his beautiful eyes! I’m so happy that I stumbled upon your blog and read your entry regarding cross-over training. I rescued a Chihuahua/Pug mix last year and I’ve looked into trainers and have even attended a session or two, but I just can’t buy into the whole “dominance”, “alpha owner” thing. I just can’t do it! It doesn’t feel right. Like you, I get very emotional. The trainers act like I’m a wuss or like I let my girl, “Wednesday”, walk all over me. But I just can’t break her spirit. I know there are things we need to work on, but she’s a great dog and I don’t want to “break her down to build her back up”. And I don’t want to sacrifice the trust she has in me. I’ve bought the Cesar Milan books and, again, I just can’t get into his methods. I keep thinking that perhaps it might be different if I were working with some huge, ferocious dog that was super aggressive, but I’m working with a 15 pound, super joyful, lovable, social, sweet dog that has issues telling me when she has to go outside and that doesn’t come when I call her. That’s it…those are our issues. So again, thank you for all of the leg work you’ve done and offering such wonderful suggestions. I’m ordering the books online as soon as I finish typing this.

Hi — I am so glad I have found your site. Boogie and my Abby have so much in common !!.. She is a 7 year old Boston I rescued 6 months ago. I think in her prior life she was not socialized at all. She is sweet as pie with me (I call her nutbug :-), but on a leash is very anxious and reactive and has nipped (level 2/3) in the past. Your blogs are helping me with her training as I am trying the BAT and positive reinforcement methods advocated by my local Humane Society. Its emotional and trying but its helpful to know others who go through it. Thank you and love your drawings !
